About
the Journal
The Malawi Journal of Social
Sciences (MJSS) is an imprint of the University of
Malawi Journals and is housed within the School of Humanities and Social
Sciences at the University of Malawi. Established to promote high-quality
scholarship in the social sciences, the journal provides a platform for
researchers, academics, practitioners, and policymakers to engage critically
with the social, political, economic, historical, and cultural realities of
Malawi, Africa, and the wider Global South.
The journal is committed to advancing
intellectually rigorous and policy-relevant research that addresses
contemporary social challenges while remaining attentive to historical contexts
and local realities. It seeks to bridge the gap between academic scholarship
and public policy by encouraging research that speaks both to scholarly debates
and to practical concerns affecting communities, institutions, and governments.
In doing so, the journal also aims to amplify voices and perspectives from
Malawi and the African continent within global conversations on governance,
development, social justice, heritage, culture, and human well-being.
The MJSS welcomes interdisciplinary
and comparative scholarship from across the social sciences and related fields,
including sociology, political science, development studies, history,
psychology, governance studies, linguistics, economics, public administration,
gender studies, and cultural studies. The journal publishes original research
articles, review essays, theoretical reflections, policy analyses, and book
reviews that contribute meaningfully to knowledge production and critical
debate.
