Dr. Kyoko Taniguchi is an Associate Professor in the International Education Development Program at Hiroshima University, Japan. Her research focuses on educational development and comparative education, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Her main research interests include learning assessment, school effectiveness, student progression, community participation, and the quality of early childhood education.
She employs quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches, including item response theory, cognitive diagnostic models, multilevel analysis, interviews, and classroom observations. She has also led JICA-supported projects aimed at improving pre-primary education in Malawi. In addition, she serves on the boards of the Japan Society for Africa Educational Research and the Japan Society for Afrasian Studies and regularly reviews manuscripts for national and international academic journals.
